Frequently asked questions.

FAQs

We're sure you have plenty of questions about buying your flatpack kitchen from Cistin Cabinetry. We have tried to cover as many topics as possible across the site and will continue to build our content to give you all the insights you need. Below are some common questions we receive.

  • Flat pack kitchens, also called modular kitchens, refer to kitchen cabinets supplied with all doors and panels stacked flat in a transportable box. The kitchen needs to be assembled and installation can be done by the homeowner or by a professional. Flatpack kitchens therefore tend to be far more affordable.

  • Flatpack kitchen doors and drawer units arrive in a box and need to be assembled. If you choose to do so, we can assemble the kitchen for you All you have to do is install it. For DIY customers, you assemble the carcasses yourself using the base components supplied. Parts are pre-cut and drilled, which helps you to put the pieces together, just like any other piece of flatpack furniture (from a well know Swedish brand for example). We supply instructions for each piece and we will be able to guide you further as required.

  • Flat pack units are very easy to install and are a budget friendly and convenient way to upgrade your space. These custom flat packs are designed to fit your specific space and desired configuration. Flatpack kitchen units and cabinets are manufactured and delivered as separate, pre-cut components, which you can then assemble yourself.

  • There are many benefits to opting for a flatpack kitchen but here are a few high-level ones.

They are budget friendly and offer clients the opportunity to have a fully bespoke kitchen that they control all aspects off, from design to install. The units typically come in at a lower price compared to assembled units and are easier to transport. The carbon footprint of these kitchens is generally lower.

We will add further insight into these benefits throughout the site.

  • The cabinet doors are made from mainly MDF (Medium Density Fibreboard). The “bones” of the kitchen are made from Australian sourced chipboard (Laminex or Polytec). This offers a robust and sturdy unit, which forms a strong foundation for your chosen aesthetic style. We only use BLUM hardware. BLUM hardware is made in Austria and is the leading brand for hinges and drawer systems in the world.

  • During the order process we will agree timelines with you. This will be based on construction and delivery times but we’ll work with your project deadlines as best we can. Normally, construction takes 3-4 weeks.

  • Depending on the size of your order, it will arrive packaged on a pallet(s) to the address you choose. We would suggest that if you are using a professional fitter, you do not book them for the day the kitchen is due to arrive.

  • A good quality flatpack kitchen can be far better for the environment than a traditional kitchen. The units come with less packaging, and take up less space, meaning they are easier to transport. In addition, less packaging also helps to reduce waste and landfill use. We aim to only use Australian sourced products which also reduces the carbon footprint of our kitchens. Some competitors use cheaper materials imported from China or elsewhere to keep their profit margins up.
